Inspiring women: Meet Nora Bafrouri

The Womenpreneur Initiative presents a series of inspiring women. Meet Nora Bafrouri!

The Womenpreneur Initiative is proud to present you another inspiring woman as part of our series about inspiring women in Belgium. Its aim is to increase awareness about female role models.

Today we present you to Nora Bafrouri! Nora is EMEA Assistant Director in Indirect Tax at Trane Technologies, a company she joined in 2017 after more than 11 years within the Indirect Tax department of the Big 4 (i.e. Deloitte Belgium, Deloitte Hong Kong and EY Belgium).

At one of our recent GenerationW events, Nora shared her professional experience in the field of Indirect Tax and gave insightful advice on how to combine career and happiness.

Nora Bafrouri

As EMEA Assistant Director, Nora advises Trane Technologies when entering a new market, ensuring that the company is legally compliant. She studied economics at the ULB and specialized with a Master in taxation at the Solvay Brussels School, an area that is very niche but which has always motivated her throughout her various professional experiences.

Nora comes from a humble Belgian-Moroccan family of nine children and is the only one with a university degree. Her parents have always been supportive and, following the advice of one of her teachers, she decided to use her strength and commitment, as well as her language skills, to study economics. Although she faced discrimination at her first job interview, Nora’s mindset always remained combative. As she says: “If someone tells you that you can’t do something, prove them wrong and do it!”.

Combining career and happiness

Nora is a mother of two and it can sometimes be difficult to combine this with her career. However, Nora always reminds herself that she does this to be happy, in her life and about herself, and that this will reflect on the well-being of her children.

Nora also knows that in terms of her appearance, she does not look like others, but she has always been her authentic self and this has helped her make the right decisions. She has learned that it is important to know your values, boundaries and background because “every time you stand up for yourself, you stand up for people like you.”

Nora’s advices

To discover your purpose and get what you really want, Nora says you have to work for it, but you also have to listen to yourself. Each of us is here in all our diversity and we need to use this to achieve our goals:
